GNUzilla - the freedom magazine

Electronic magazine GNUzilla is a periodical dedicated to free operating systems (GNU, GNU/Linux, *BSD Unices...) and free software in general. The first issue of GNUzilla magazine revealed itself to the world on 1st January 2005., and has since emerged as the one and only free software magazine in the countries of former Yugoslavia. GNUzilla represents the greatest undertaking of NGO Free Software Network – FSN, which provides this unique project with legal framework.

In spite of serious organisational issues that lurked from all corners of the Serbian scene, there were people who dared to seriously reflect on idea of actually making a magazine: a loose team frequenting FSN's website and forums came up with a bulletproof plan sometime in late 2004. - to start doing something instead of merely talking about it. Following a brief period of consideration and brainstorming, the team began working hard in order to make their plans a reality.

Due to lack of financial backing, decision was made to launch GNUzilla as an electronic magazine instead of traditional, printed edition. The team's main objective was to persevere with monthly e-zine format, the only viable solution given GNUzilla's virtually non-existent budget - an unfortunate circumstance that still holds true. The decision proved successful since GNUzilla, thanks to great enthusiasm of all involved, managed to establish itself as a focal point of free software scene in Serbia.

The main goal remains unchanged: publish GNUzilla in electronic format until sound financial source for printed edition is found. To reach this goal, financial involvement of all relevant parties is of paramount importance and represents equally significant objective.

The team

In order to optimise the workflow, the GNUzilla team has been divided in two main groups according to the field of work. The project core team – the editorial board - consists of people who are actively involved in producing GNUzilla, many of whom are also its originators:

with Ivan Jelić and Ivan Čukić performing duties of editor-in-chief and executive editor, respectively. The remainder of the team is composed of associate members, who contribute with columns, articles, proofreading... and are essential to both longevity and quality of the magazine.

All good-willed individuals interested in helping the magazine are encouraged to contact us either by e-mail or by visiting GNUzilla forums located at FSN's website http://www.fsn.org.yu. Any sort of assistance will be more than welcome and sincerely appreciated.
